Dolly Ahluwalia joins Sunil Grover for his show

Talking about Sunil's former co-star Kapil Sharma, Dolly says, "Let’s not get into comparisons. There is no need for it. Creativity-wise, Kapil is doing well and no one can stop him as his show is wonderful."

She came into the limelight post her ‘cool mom’ act in Vicky Donor (2012) and now Dolly Ahluwalia will be seen in Sunil Grover’s upcoming show, Mad In India (MII).

"It will be a refreshing comedy for families," says Dolly, who recently won an award for costume designing for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013).

Talking about the show, she says, "I will be playing a realistic character, but I might go overboard at times. I’m trying to explore my abilities and limits on this show. Comedy on TV is improving. Today, with so much stress in life, we need shows that make us laugh out loud."

A big fan of Kapil Sharma, Dolly doesn’t want to compete with his show. "Let’s not get into comparisons. There is no need for it. Creativity-wise, Kapil is doing well and no one can stop him as his show is wonderful."

The actor skims over the Sunil-Kapil issue (when the former walked out of the latter’s show), saying, "An actor can be with one show only for a while. Life has to go on."

Having struck a good balance between costume designing and acting, Dolly finds it hard to pick a favourite. "I love and enjoy both. I haven’t cut down on costume designing to focus on films, but I don’t take on too much either. I get creative satisfaction when I do costumes. I have lived the characters through the costumes, be it Dolly in Omkara (2006), or Guddu and Sweety in Kaminey (2009)."

The actor isn’t designing costumes for MII as she’d rather focus on her role.

Currently, Dolly has three films in hand, including Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider.

"I had been doing costumes for years, handling prestigious projects. Post Vicky Donor, people recognised me on the streets and I’ve got compliments from youngsters saying they want a mom like me. Mothers-in-law tell me they’ve started having an open relationship with their daughters-in-law," she says.
