How important is it for you to have your own show?

It’s very important. I always wanted to host my own show. Moreover, having my show on a channel where Shah Rukh Khan is also hosting a show is really a big deal. Besides, the channel’s confidence in me —that I will be able to host a show on my own — proves that my body of work is strong. After Kapil’s comedy show, people asked me when I will come up with my own, but I have never been jealous of him. I am happy that I won’t be mouthing lines from a script or doing stand-up comedy, but will just entertain people. My show has good energy and the format allows participants to sing while doing tasks.

Why are there constant comparisons between Kapil and you?

Since Comedy Circus, we were projected as rivals, but we are good friends. In fact, Kapil has done great work and earned credibility for entertainers. I am an actor and have done comic skits, while he’s a pure stand-up comic. We are in constant touch and I am glad he’s doing a film now.

How will you manage two shows?

It will be tough. I have two shows as well as a film. I was shooting with Tusshar Kapoor and Aftab Shivdasani in Bangkok, Thailand, recently. It has been a mad run and I haven’t slept well for quite some time. But I am also happy to be playing one of the lead roles in the film.

After being open about your relationship with Kashmera Shah, it was surprising to hear about your hush hush wedding.

It just happened. Earlier, there were some issues with the family. But after they were sorted, we got married. Everyone knew about it and we even threw a party for the family, but we didn’t make it public. I have been a one-woman man.
