Actor Karan Wahi says that everyone is entitled to an opinion and disagreements won’t stop him from saying what he feels.

The controversy around television show Pehredaar Piya Ki, which tells the tale of a 9-year-old boy married to an adult woman, is not likely to die out anytime soon. Actor Karan Wahi, who had earlier spoken against the show on Facebook, recently got flak from the shows’ producers , Shashi Mittal and Sumeet Mittal, at a press conference in Mumbai. They slammed Karan for commenting on the show without knowing much about it and said they don’t want to give him ‘unnecessary publicity’ by reacting to his post.

Karan, however, says his opinion is his and no pressure will change it. “I was not present at the press conference so I don’t think I should say much or else who knows I might get trolled again. In our countr,y we are entitled to freedom of speech. Still, if they want to take action against me they are more than welcome to go ahead with it,” says the actor, adding that unlike what has been said against him, he doesn’t need to do anything for publicity.

Actor Suyyash Rai, who stars in the show, also urged everyone not to listen to Karan and watch the show as the actors and makers have put a lot of effort. He posted, “…This show is different , please don’t judge it and jump onto conclusions…” Earlier, the lead actor of the show, Tejaswi Prakash also defended the show. “I think it’s really progressive. It also happened in Game Of Thrones. People love Game Of Thrones and if the same thing happens in Pehredaar Piya Ki, then it’s an issue. I’m an actor. I just get my script, go on the set and I perform. There is nothing wrong in what we have shown,” she had said.

Talking more about the reaction of the show makers and Suyyash, Karan shares, “I wrote (on Facebook) whatever I felt about the show and I don’t remember saying anything derogatory. Not everyone will agree with my opinion and I understand that. But I think we all should be open to criticism. Also, I have nothing against anyone. There is no bad blood between me and Suyyash. I hope the show does well for those working on it. But the way they (both the show makers and the audience) have reacted to my comment means my opinion matters. In future also, if I have an opinion about something I will put it across,” he concludes.

Meanwhile, an online petition was filed by petitioner Mansi Jain on Change.org against the show. I&B minister Smriti Irani had asked Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC) to take immediate action against the show. Viewers and Twitterati have also been protesting against the regressive content of the show.
