A look at the new Indian and international TV shows that hope to keep viewers hooked to their small screens this year.
There’s an array of new Hindi and English TV shows that will go on air this year. While some are brand new concepts, others will see seasons. Here, we enlist some of the most anticipated shows that Indian TV viewers can look forward to in the coming weeks.
1. Khatron Ke Khiladi
The next season of the stunt-based reality show will be hosted by Arjun Kapoor. Featuring 14 celebrity contestants, you can expect action and daredevil stunts on the show that was shot in Argentina.
2. Nach Baliye 8
Apparently, the judging panel comprising Preity Zinta, writer Chetan Bhagat and choreographer Marzi Pestonji didn’t really get good ratings in the last season. Hence, the channel is likely to get Shilpa Shetty Kundra and director Sajid Khan back on the show for its next season. They had judged the show’s fifth and sixth editions.
3. Silsila Pyaar Ka
Shilpa Shirodkar will play an over-possessive mother, Janki, in the show. Her character believes that her son, Raunak (to be played by Abhay Vakil), belongs only to her, and she deserves all his attention and affection. He falls in love with a middle-class girl, Kajal (to be played by Chhavi Pandey), who believes love isn’t about holding on, but letting go.
4. Woh Teri Bhabhi Hai Pagle
Ali Asgar returns to fiction TV with Woh Teri Bhabhi Hai Pagle. The romantic comedy show will be set in a hospital, and is based on a love triangle. Krishna Gokani, who has starred in shows like Hamari Devrani and Looteri Dulhan, will make a comeback after four years.
5. 24 (season 2)
The second season of actor-producer Anil Kapoor’s Indian adaptation of the internationally acclaimed show, 24, will go on air this year. Anil’s character, Jai Singh Rathod, will return to save the world. Buzz is that the show might also star Sakshi Tanwar, Surveen Chawla and Sikandar Kher, among others.
6. Mission Sapne
Various celebrities from different walks of life will feature in the second season of Mission Sapne. In the show, celebrities step into the shoes of a common man for a day, to raise funds for them. Many popular faces like Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor and Sonu Nigam will be seen in the next season.
7. Meri Sasu maa
Heeba Nawab, who gained popularity with the show, Tere Sheher Mein, will star in a new serial that will revolve around a girl, who loses her mother as a child.
8. Agent Carter (season 2)
With Hayley Atwell in the lead role as an unstoppable secret agent, the show is set to return with its second season. It features the Marvel Comics’ character, Peggy Carter, who will fight new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, and will go to Los Angeles, USA, for an assignment. Marvel’s Agent Carter has been one of 2015’s most successful TV shows.
10. Shades Of Blue
Jennifer Lopez, who plays Harlee Santos in the show, will be seen as a detective.
11. The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story
The show is based on shocking crime stories. It explores the 1995 murder trial of American football star OJ Simpson (who was tried and acquitted for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Lyle Goldman) from the lawyers’ perspectives, in over 10 episodes. The series features John Travolta, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Schwimmer, Sarah Paulson and Selma Blair.
12. Suits (season 5)
The summer finale of the show ended with a twist that was unexpected by many fans. The new season of Suits will uncover some questions that remained unanswered in the earlier edition.
13. Chicago Fire
This show is about firefighters of Chicago Fire Station 51. With professional equations, there are personal tensions that challenge the courageous team. The show stars Matthew Casey, Kelly Severide and Gabriela Dawson.
Others on the tube
Martin Scorsese forays into TV with Vinyl, which has been produced by rock ‘n’ roll legend Mick Jagger. It is set in the ’70s, in New York City.

American actor-comedian Zach Galifianakis, who is known for playing Alan in the Hangover film series, will be seen in Baskets. The comedy show is about a man who dreams of becoming a professional clown.
Various spin-offs of MasterChef — MasterChef Australia Season 8, MasterChef US Season 6 and MasterChef Junior Season 4 — will air all year round.
A dark comedy, Impastor is about Buddy Dobbs (Michael Rosenbaum), who is on the run from loan sharks. He ends up impersonating a small town’s new gay pastor
Developed by Greg Berlanti, among others, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow is a spin-off of Arrow And The Flash.
In the show Shark Tank, budding entrepreneurs get a chance to turn their dreams into reality. The participants will present their ideas to the sharks in the tank — five big entrepreneurs, who have pursued their dreams and succeeded. The contestants will try to convince any one of them to invest money in their idea.
