Covid update: PM Modi to launch ‘andolan’; EU’s $8 mn drug order; China vaccine

From the launch of a new awareness campaign by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to more relaxations in the national capital - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic. PM Modi will launch a 'jan andolan' (people's campaign) for awareness about Covid precautions as the economy opens up further, and the festival season and winter approach. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced fresh relaxations in curbs regarding weekly markets and movie theatres. The Railways announced that it will soon run 39 additional special trains. All usual passenger trains were halted on March 25, 2020, and special Shramik and passenger trains were later started. IRCTC will also start operating the Tejas Express, possibly from October 17. In international news, the European Commission ordered over 20,000 doses of the remdesivir drug from US pharma Gilead in a deal worth $8.2 million.
