New Covid strain: India bans flights from UK; govt says ‘no need to panic’

India has decided to announce all flights to and from the UK from Wednesday till December 31. The decision has been taken in view of the emergence of a new Covid strain in the United Kingdom. Additionally, passengers coming from the UK through flights till Tuesday midnight would be tested for COVID-19 on arrival at airports. A number of other countries including Canada, Turkey, Belgium, Italy and Israel have also banned flights from the UK. The British government had itself warned of a potent new strain of the virus that was 'out of control' and imposed a stringent new stay-at-home lockdown from Sunday.
