When a dog found the World Cup trophy

France and Croatia will go into battle in the World Cup final on Sunday (15 July), and the winner will hold aloft the iconic gold trophy at the Lukzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The original Jules Rimet trophy almost disappeared for good back in 1966, when it was stolen just months before England staged the tournament. The exact details of the theft remain a mystery, but what is known is that the Jules Rimet trophy disappeared from its case during an exhibition in Central London, when the security guards were on a break. One week later and step forward Pickles, a black and white mixed collie and his owner David Corbett, who discovered the trophy, wrapped in newspaper and hidden under a hedge in suburban south London, during their evening walk. SNTV takes a look back to 1966 and how one man and his dog become unlikely heroes after recovering the stolen World Cup trophy in a suburban London garden. (Video: SNTV).
