Russia’s massive military drills involving thousands of troops, warships, aircraft and new weapons have raised fresh concerns across Europe, as Moscow continues to signal its military strength. At the same time, Ukraine’s push for rapid European Union membership has faced a major setback. EU Commissioner Marta Kos said Kyiv must meet all accession requirements and cannot secure shortcuts or exemptions, while rejecting a January 2027 political deadline. Ukraine’s path to full EU membership still depends on reforms, rule of law, economic convergence and approval from all 27 member states. Meanwhile, Russia has warned NATO over Kaliningrad, raising tensions further.
