‘700% growth in India’s defence exports’: CDS Gen Rawat on ‘aatmanirbhar’ push

Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, revealed ‘staggering’ statistics about India’s defence export growth. He said that there was a 700% increase in export of defence equipment over a period of three years - from Rs 1,521 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 10,745 crore in 2018-19. General Rawat added that the government’s Make In India programme, launched in 2014, had given a clear vision to India’s defence industry. The news also came amid a fresh push by the Narendra Modi administration to give a fillip to Indian industries under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ scheme. In his latest Independence Day speech, PM Modi had spoken about the impact of the scheme on the defence sector. Watch the full video for more.
