Hours after a special CBI court announced its verdict regarding the alleged conspiracy to demolish the Babri Masjid in 1992, a political face-off started between the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The court acquitted all 32 accused in the case, including BJP veterans like LK Advani and Uma Bharti. The Congress claimed that the verdict ran counter to the Supreme Court's November 2019 verdict in which the disputed site was handed to the Ram Mandir side. Congress' Randeep Surjewala said that SC had called the demolition of the mosque an 'egregious violation of rule of law'. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh minister Mohsin Raza welcomed the judgment and said that it was an example of the rule of law and 'Ram Rajya'. He said communal forces had been finally defeated.
