Swachh Survekshan 2020: Indore ranked cleanest city for fourth consecutive year

Madhya Pradesh's Indore is the cleanest city under Swachh Survekshan 2020. Indore ranked the cleanest city for the fourth consecutive year. Swachh Survekshan is centre's annual survey on cleanliness under Swachh Bharat Mission. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched in 2014. Gujarat's Surat and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra ranked second and third respectively. In category of population of less than 1 lakh, Maharashtra's Karad bagged first position. Karad was followed by Saswad and Lonavala, both in Maharashtra. Chhattisgarh ranked the cleanest state in 'under 100 Urban Local Bodies' category. Jharkhand adjudged the cleanest state in the 'above 100 Urban Local Bodies' category. The announcement of this year's results was delayed due to Covid-19. The survey was completed in 28 days. Survey covered 4,242 cities and saw participation of 1.87 crore citizens. Every year, cities and towns across India are awarded with 'Swachh Cities' title. Cities and towns are awarded based on their cleanliness and sanitation drives. The sixth edition of the survey was launched last month. Swachh Survekshan 2021 has been launched by ministry of housing and urban affairs.
