Farmers seek support to preserve traditional red rice

Farmers in Himachal Pradesh are fast opting for converting their farm fields into orchards or grow vegetables instead of the traditional red rice, Zatu. That is because it requires lot of effort and cost. Local farmers feel that the absence of proper marketing and other infrastructural facilities are responsible for the decline in production of this major cash crop of the region.
