Subterranean fires in India's richest coal mine town of Jharia in Jharkhand state has rendered it into a ghost town due to mass evacuation of people. The 100-year-old town may soon become history as even the ground threatens to cave in due to the underground fires. Jharia with coal reserves to the tune of Rs 50,000 crore will be abandoned, as the raging subterranean fire have claimed several lives.
