The situation has worsened in various flood-ravaged parts of Haryana. Several villages in Kaithal district remained partially submerged as floodwaters accumulated in low-lying areas, causing people to take shelter on rooftops. In the meantime, army officials have been conducting rescue operations, and have directed movement of traffic onto alternate routes from the washed away National Highway 65, besides repairing the breaches in the canal. Hundreds of villages in Haryana and Punjab have been inundated due to continuous heavy downpour over the last few days. The waters of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal have overflowed and submerged many villages in surrounding areas.
