GK Pillai to be the new Home Secretary

Commerce Secretary Gopal Krishna Pillai will take over as Union Home Secretary on June 30. A seasoned bureaucrat, Mr Pillai earlier had a stint as a Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry. He belongs to the Kerala cadre of the 1972 batch of the IAS. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has cleared his appointment.
