Hindus celebrate Makar Sankranti

Hindus on Wednesday thronged Varanasi to take holy dip in the Ganges river on the occasion of Makar Sakranti festival marking the journey of the sun towards northern hemisphere corresponding with the beginning of longer days of sunlight.Millions of people visit various water bodies across the country to take the holy dip and pray to sun god.In Himachal Pradesh scores of devotees gathered at Tatapani hot water spring and took holy dip.
