India pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with UPA President Sonia Gandhi paid homage to 'Father of the nation' Mahatma Gandhi on his 142nd birth anniversary in New Delhi. Singh was joined by Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Opposition leaders L. K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj, who paid floral tribute at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial-Rajghat. The United Nations had declared in 2007 that October 2nd would be observed as 'International Day of Non-Violence', as a tribute to Gandhi's non-violent struggle against the British rule.
