India set to get first woman President

After much speculation, the ruling alliance on Thursday announced the 72-year old Pratibha Patil as its candidate for the upcoming polls. With this India is all set to get its first woman President. Reports said Patil emerged as a unanimous choice after differences with the Communists and other allies over the candidature of Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Karan Singh, an intellectual and former royal of Jammu and Kashmir.
