Indian Army commences Vijay Diwas celebrations

The Indian Army on Sunday commenced the celebrations for the annual Vijay Diwas, or Victory Day. Vijay Diwas on December 16 marks India's decisive military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, the third engagement between the two neighbours, which led to the creation of the nation of Bangladesh. Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Defence in Kolkata Santi Mallik said that the event was celebrated to commemorate the sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
