Janmashtmi celebrated

Janmashtmi is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Krishna who is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Preserver. While in Mathura and Vrindavan, cribs and other displays with dolls in traditional costumes depict the life and times of Krishna. In Mumbai, the festival is celebrated as Dahi-Handi where young boys form a human pyramid and then break a clay pot filled with curd hanging high in the air.
