Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday demanded safety reviews of nuclear plants and announced that future reactors in India would have to be certified by the Indian regulatory authority. Speaking at a function in New Delhi to present the Department of Atomic Energy's lifetime achievement award for 2009, Singh said the tragedy at the Fukushima plant in Japan has raised worldwide concerns about the use of nuclear energy as a source of power.
