Lakes dying due to silt deposition in Nainital

Felling of trees and rapid urbanization in Nanital region in Uttarakhand has led to large amounts of silt flowing into lakes in the area. The region, famous as Lake District of Uttarakhand, because of the large number of lakes in the area, is now faced with predicament of saving its lakes from dying. The silt and garbage has chocked their natural inflow channels posing a threat to the survival of the scenic lakes.
