Nirupama Rao takes charge as new Foreign Secretary

Nirupama Rao, former India's ambassador to China, assumed office as the new Foreign Secretary of India on Saturday. Rao succeeds Shivshankar Menon and is the second woman to head India's Foreign Service after Chokila Iyer. Rao further said that economic diplomacy and public diplomacy are other issues that also demand increased attention, although she added that our Foreign Service counts among the best in the world.
