Yamuna level recedes, but still above danger mark

The water level in the Yamuna started receding on Sunday, a day after nearly 2,000 people were evacuated in Delhi as the river was flowing dangerously above the danger mark, officials said. Although the level receded, it is still above the danger mark, inundating several low-lying areas along the river in the national capital. The rising waters forced closure of roads, bridges prompting the authorities to ask people living in low-lying areas to move to elevated levels as floods may spread to various parts of the city. Over 100 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force were deployed to assist local authorities.
