Maya Kodani acquitted in Naroda Patiya case

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday acquitted former BJP minister Maya Kodani in the Naroda Patiya case. On 28 February, 2002, supporters of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal burned down 800 homes in the Naroda Patiya locality of Ahmedabad, which was a predominantly Muslim community. 97 people from the community were killed and it was one of the worst post-Godhra riots attack. Kodani was given a 28 year sentence to serve, in 2012. The trial court held that she masterminded the violence.
