Cyclone Tauktae: Deaths & destruction in Karnataka, Goa; Gujarat braces

  • Cyclone Tauktae left a trail of death and destruction on India's west coast on May 16. At least 4 deaths were reported from Karnataka, while Goa suffered at least 2 casualties. Hundreds of trees were uprooted and several houses damaged as heavy rain and strong winds lashed the coastal areas. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on May 18. The National Disaster Response Force has deployed teams in the states. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with CMs of Gujarat and Maharashtra, and the administrator of the Union Territory of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
