The Dalai Lama extended his wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 71st birthday. He congratulated the PM on growing confidence he had brought among people despite challenges. In a letter to the PM, the Dalai Lama said India's success contributes to the development of the world. “I offer my heartfelt greetings to you on your birthday. May you continue to live a long and healthy life,” he said. “For us Tibetans living in exile, India is not only our spiritual refuge, but for more than 62 years has also been our physical home. I again take the opportunity to offer our deep gratitude to the government & people of India for the warm hospitality we have received,” he added. On July 6, PM Modi too had extended his wishes to the Dalai Lama on 86th birthday. Beijing regards Lama, who is based in India's hill town Dharamsala, as a 'separatist’. It is sensitive to Lama meeting global leaders, visiting places at Indian govt's invitation. Dalai Lama is the recipient of over 150 global awards including the Nobel Peace Prize.
