Chief Of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat dies in helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. CDS Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others on board the chopper died in the crash. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident, the IAF said. Around noon today, IAF confirmed a Mi-17 V5 chopper carrying the CDS crashed near Coonoor. Gen Bipin Rawat was on a visit to Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. PM Modi, briefed by Rajnath Singh, called a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security at his residence.
