Russian President Vladimir Putin called for joint action to protect the Caspian Sea, warning that falling water levels threaten its ecosystem, fishing industry, shipping routes and coastal communities. Citing Russian estimates, he said approximately 20,000 square kilometres had been exposed by retreating waters in Russia’s sector over two decades. Putin also proposed an AI-powered “digital twin” to model future water levels and improve navigation safety.
