Belarus has launched new nuclear combat drills alongside Russian forces amid escalating tensions between Moscow and NATO. According to Belarus’ defence ministry, missile forces and aircraft units are practicing nuclear deployment operations, including preparation and delivery of nuclear munitions from unplanned locations. The exercises also involve concealment and long-range troop movements designed to improve combat readiness. The drills come just days after Russia tested its nuclear-capable Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, intensifying fears of heightened nuclear signalling in Europe. Minsk insists the exercises are not directed against third countries, but the developments have triggered fresh concerns across NATO’s eastern flank.
