Remember Mario? He’s 40 this year!

The Mario character we know from the Nintendo game Super Mario Bros, started off not as a plumber, but a carpenter in the 1981 game Donkey Kong. Over four decades, he’s had more than barrels thrown at him. He’s survived evil turtles, prickly cacti, the villain Bowser and even a terrible film version in 1993. Here are some of our favourite things about the game.
