Sikkim gets its first female football referees

Breaking barriers of male dominancy, two women hailing from Sikkim, Nim Diki Bhutia and Sudeshna Lama have become the first women soccer referees' from the state. Both of them are serving as trainees in the ongoing 2nd Division S-League Football tournament at Palzor Stadium in Gangtok. Aspiring to be a national level professional referee, Bhutia believed that there was a lot of scope for women to excel in this field. Moreover, she urged other women to venture into this profession and try their hand at refereeing. In addition, Bhutia said that this tournament was a training ground for them and they aimed to move to the next level after rigorous training.
