Concerns persist over Afghan women's rights. Taliban say women seeking to travel long distance must be accompanied by a close male relative. The Taliban have replaced Women's Ministry with the Ministry of Virtue & Vice. Weeks ago, the Ministry asked channels to stop showing dramas featuring female actors. Vehicle owners have also been asked to refuse rides to women not wearing headscarves. Taliban swept to power in August as the last of the U.S.-led coalition troops pulled out. Many Afghan women in public-sector roles have been barred from returning to work, girls have largely remained cut off from secondary school.
