The USS Abraham Lincoln is returning to San Diego after an extraordinary wartime deployment lasting more than 300 days, including an unprecedented stretch of more than 260 consecutive days without a port call. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited the carrier and praised its sailors for their performance during the deployment, which included combat operations connected to the Iran war. The extended mission drew scrutiny over conditions and the mental strain on the crew, including reported suicide attempts. Hegseth presented the carrier strike group with a Presidential Unit Citation, recognising its service during the deployment.
