Security increased at state Capitols in US ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. National Guard troops and police were brought in to prevent a repeat of the US Capitol violence. Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20 will mark the official start of his four-year term. Heightened security continued in Washington with dozens of National Guard members and state troopers guarding the fenced off capitol and legislative buildings. In Salem, Oregon, a small number of armed demonstrators argued with counter-protesters. Some protestors supported President Donald Trump, but others expressed general anti-government sentiments. Though the FBI had warned of the potential for armed protests at capitol buildings, there were no immediate reports of violence on Jan 17. On January 6, supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol and disrupted electoral count. The attack left a capitol police officer & 4 others dead. Over 125 people were arrested for the insurrection. Following the Capitol riots, President Donald Trump was impeached for the second time in his tenure. Watch the full video for more.
