Marcon defeats rival Le Pen; Vows to unite France after bagging second term

French President Emmanuel Macron defeated far-right rival Marine Le Pen by a comfortable margin. Macron secured a second term, heading off what would have been a political earthquake. Cheers of joy erupted as results appeared on a screen at the Champ de Mars park at the foot of the Eiffel tower. Supporters waved French & EU flags - people hugged each other, danced and chanted 'Macron!'. Le Pen, who at one stage trailed Macron by a few points in opinion polls, quickly admitted defeat.
