India officially opened talks with the Taliban on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said that the Indian ambassador to Qatar Deepak Mittal met Taliban leader Stanekzai on Tuesday at the group's request. The discussions involved security and safe return of stranded Indians from Afghanistan and concerns on use of Afghanistan's soil for anti-India activities, MEA said.
