Initial results indicate a neck to neck race between the two main opposition parties - the Nawaz Sharif led PML (N) and the PPP of assassinated former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. However, Nawaz Sharif's party is slightly ahead of the PPP, because of the party's clear sweep in Punjab Province although PPP also has a clear lead in Sindh.
