Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on December 27, that he would boycott the general elections set for January 8. Sharif announced the boycott in Islamabad a few hours after Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by a suicide bomber plunging the nuclear-armed country into one of the worst crisis in its 60-year history.
