Nick Reiner: 5 things to know about Rob Reiner's son who was arrested after parents' deaths
Los Angeles police said in a statement that Nick Reiner is “responsible” for the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
Hours after legendary director and actor Rob Reiner, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead inside their Brentwood home, Los Angeles police said in a statement that their son, Nick Reiner, is “responsible” for the deaths. Nick has been arrested, according to CNN.
Nick, 32, is Rob and Michele’s second son. Rob was introduced to Michele while directing When Harry Met Sally. The two tied the knot in 1989, and share three children – Jake (born 1991), Nick (born 1993), and Romy (born 1997).

Rob also adopted Tracy Reiner, the daughter of his first wife Penny Marshall. Tracy is Penny’s daughter from a previous marriage to Michael Henry. Rob and Penny divorced in 1981.
Five things to know about Nick Reiner
- Nick battled substance abuse issues, which began in his teens. He entered rehab for the first time around his 15th birthday, according to Parade. He had already done over a dozen stays in rehabilitation facilities by 2016.
- Nick was once homeless. He said in 2016, as reported by People, “I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun.”
- Nick revealed that his homelessness was a result of choosing not to return to rehab, adding that he wanted to “do it my way.” “If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,” he explained.
- Nick is known for penning a screenplay titled Being Charlie. The film, which starred Nick Robinson and was directed by Rob, was loosely based on Nick’s life and battles. “When I was out there, I could’ve died. It’s all luck. You roll the dice and you hope you make it,” he said while promoting the film. “I met crazy great people there, so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there.”
- Nick once revealed that he did not “bond a lot” with his father. He said in an interview with BUILD Series posted on May 5, 2016, that Being Charlie brought him and his father closer together after the two failed to “bond” a lot when he was a kid. “It really clicked for me because we didn’t bond a lot as a kid,” he said at the time. “He really liked baseball, I liked basketball, and he could watch that with my brother — baseball — but I just, when I saw him do that, it was something that I’m interested in, I was like, ‘Wow, he really knows a lot’ and it made me feel closer to him.”
