US govt responds to Colorado UFO report: What happened and what we know about the alleged classified videos

The US Department of War has responded to a report about alleged classified video showing a large triangular object over a Colorado military base, saying officials are investigating the claims and could release information if anything is uncovered.
Acting Press Secretary Joel Valdez said in a post on X that the department's team was looking into the report published by the New York Post. He added that any material uncovered during the review could be released through the department's PURSUE program.
The response comes a day after the Post reported that two videos allegedly showing a roughly 100-foot black triangular object over a Colorado military installation remain classified by the Air Force.
What the UFO report claims
According to the NY Post, the two videos were recorded on a service member's personal cellphone on consecutive nights in 2023. Sources familiar with the footage told the newspaper that the recordings show what they described as a large triangular craft moving over mountains and appearing to blend into clouds.
The footage is reportedly held by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations in Colorado.
The Post also published file numbers that sources identified with the alleged recordings. However, the videos themselves have not been publicly released, meaning the claims about what they show cannot be independently verified.
The report has also not established that the object was extraterrestrial or even definitively identified as a UFO in the sense of a confirmed unexplained craft. The description comes from sources cited by the newspaper.
Department of War says it will investigate
Valdez's response marks the first government reaction cited in connection with the specific Colorado video report.
"Our team at the Department of War is looking into this report," Valdez said in a post on social media.
He added that if officials uncover anything, it would be released under PURSUE on the department's UFO website.
That creates a new potential path for the alleged footage or related records to become public. But the department has not said that it has located the videos, confirmed their authenticity or determined what the recordings show.
Could the Colorado footage be released?
The Department of War's statement does not amount to confirmation that the alleged videos exist or that they depict an unexplained craft. It does, however, indicate that officials are taking the report seriously enough to review it.
For now, the alleged Colorado footage remains out of public view. If the department determines that records connected to the allegation can be released, Valdez's statement suggests they could eventually appear through PURSUE.
