The two dozen migrants were originally from the Punjab region of northern India, police say.

The group were arrested Tuesday morning for having no residence papers, and transferred to a detention centre in Lille. The two children have been placed in a reception centre in Reims, whilst the driver, another Indian, is being held for questioning by police for having fake ID.

On November 1 another 30 Indian illegal immigrants were discovered in appalling conditions crammed into a small truck in Chamonix, mid-east France. The driver of that truck has been charged with membership of an organised gang illegally trafficking foreigners into France.
