French police who stopped a van at a crime checkpoint in Reims found 24 illegal immigrants from India in the back, including two children, a spokesman said on Wednesday.
The two dozen migrants were originally from the Punjab region of northern India, police say.
The group were arrested Tuesday morning for having no residence papers, and transferred to a detention centre in Lille. The two children have been placed in a reception centre in Reims, whilst the driver, another Indian, is being held for questioning by police for having fake ID.
On November 1 another 30 Indian illegal immigrants were discovered in appalling conditions crammed into a small truck in Chamonix, mid-east France. The driver of that truck has been charged with membership of an organised gang illegally trafficking foreigners into France.
