5.8-magnitude quake shakes eastern Japan

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake on Friday shook Tokyo and other areas in eastern Japan, the meteorological agency said.

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake on Friday shook Tokyo and other areas in eastern Japan, the meteorological agency said.

The quake took place at 9:46 am (0046 GMT), and caused buildings to sway in Tokyo.

The focus was in the Pacific off the coast of Ibaraki prefecture, some 130 kilometres from the capital, according to the Japanese agency.
