He says a number of other workers escaped without injuries, including Levi Mugasa. He says that as they worked on the site in Kampala on Thursday the building began shaking. Mugasa says he survived because he stood near a pillar that shielded him from the collapsing debris.

Ugandan civil engineers have complained that not all companies constructing buildings follow safety and labor regulations, exposing the workers and the public to unnecessary risks.
