Investigators found evidence suggesting Lanza may have wanted to emulate and outdo Anders Behring Breivik who killed 77 people in Norway in one day in 2011.

CBS News quoted sources to say Lanza found himself in direct competition with Breivik and chose Sandy Hook Elementary School as it had the “largest cluster of people”.

The local police have since called the story speculative. But other media outlets such as the CNN have reported along similar lines, linking Lanza to other mass murders.

There is still no information on Lanza’s motive for gunning down 20 first-grade students and six adults at Sandy Hook elementary last December.

Investigators also found what they have said a “trove” of video games from the basement of Lanza’s home. He practised computer shooting skills there. He also practiced at nearby shooting ranges with his mother.

Unlike Breivik, who surrendered, Lanza killed himself.
