The armed men ambushed the tankers going to Afghanistan in Bolan district of Balochistan, officials of the Levies militia said.

A driver was killed instantly in the firing and two tankers were gutted.

The attackers escaped before security forces reached the site.

Levies personnel later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Pro-Taliban militants regularly attack trucks and tankers ferrying supplies to US and NATO forces in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

Hundreds of vehicles have been destroyed and scores killed in such attacks.
