"I am grateful to the people of India that they have given me the unique opportunity to serve them. I complete the first five years, they have given me the opportunity, they have renewed their confidence in me. This is something, I think is a debt, which I never repay," Singh said during a press conference at the conclusion of the third G-20 Summit here.

Born on September 26, 1932 at Gah in Punjab, which is now in the Chakwal District of Pakistan, Singh was responding to a question when a correspondent reminded him of his birthday and wished him on the occasion.

"The only way I can make an effort to repay is to rededicate myself to the service of the people of India for the rest of my life," he said.
