Provincial Interior Ministry spokeswoman Madina Khadziyeva says five officers were riding in a police car that was hit on Friday by an explosive device near the village of Dattykh.

Ingushetia has suffered a series of bomb attacks amid a surge in violence across the North Caucasus region in recent months. Its leader was almost killed in a suicide bomb blast in June, and a separate suicide attack killed at least 21 people at a police station last month.

The tiny province borders Chechnya, the site of two devastating post-Soviet wars between government forces and separatist rebels.
