Two top Taliban commanders killed

Seven persons, including two top Taliban commanders and a girl, were killed in fresh violence in northwest Pakistan on Monday even as troops continued operations to flush out militants from various parts of the tribal belt.

Seven persons, including two top Taliban commanders and a girl, were killed in fresh violence in northwest Pakistan on Monday even as troops continued operations to flush out militants from various parts of the tribal belt.

Five militants, including Taliban commanders Muhammad Alim Binori alias Khalil and Maulvi Shamsul Haq, were killed in a clash with security forces in Madyan area of Swat early this morning.

Haq was a commander from Matta area, a former Taliban stronghold in the Swat valley.

Binori was earlier a member of the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Muhammadi and the government had announced a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head. Binori was also a close aide of Maulana Fazlullah, the Taliban chief in Swat.

A minor girl was killed when she was caught in crossfire between security forces and pro-Taliban militants in Lakaro area of Mohmand tribal region, officials said.

The exchange of fire continued for four hours, an eyewitness said.

A security personnel was injured when an improvised explosive device went off in Sara Parsh area of Mohmand Agency.

Security forces have stepped up operations to flush out militants from the region over the past few days.
