A seven-year-old boy, who was fed-up with his father’s habit of gambling and drinking, went to the police in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur and gave them a tip-off about the gambling den frequented by his father.

Amir Shoaib, a resident of Chamcham area, met the TI of VD Nagar and told him about his father, who is a daily wage worker at a local market, and the gambling den.

“On January 3, a kid came running to the police station and told an officer that he wants to meet the in-charge. When he met me, he told me that his father, Akeel Khan, gambles daily with some people. Shoaib said that he had urged his father many times not to drink and gamble but nothing happened. Hence, he wanted his father to be arrested so he told me about the spot where Khan was playing at that time,” Kishore Patanwala, the TI of VD Nagar told Hindustan Times.

Patanwala said that he then sent a team of police officers to the spot and found Khan and others gambling. “We booked his father and others under relevant sections of the gambling act,” he said.

He added that after Shoaib’s mother Zahida, who is a housewife, came to know that he had informed the police about his father, she beat up the child. “But it was after this incident, that Shoaib’s father has quit gambling and drinking. When the police rewarded the kid with Rs 1,000 for his tip-off everyone praised the boy. This made Shoaib’s parents proud,” he said.

Shoaib’s teachers at school too are praising him for reporting his father to the police and have decided to felicitate him.

“We are proud that the kid studies in our school. We have decided to honour him on Republic Day,” Surendra Dabkara, principal of Shoaib’s school, told HT.
